The exceptional Beijing Olympic Games five years ago is etched in the memory of every person, and made every August a midsummer of national fitness. On 14th August, 2013 Beijing Olympic City Triathlon dedicated to fitness enthusiasts kicked off in the Olympic Common Domain, pushing the 4th Beijing Olympic City Sports & Culture Festival 2013 to a climax of fashion sports.
The competition set up 7 women’s and men’s groups in different ages. When starting gun fired, nearly 200 competitors jumped orderly into the swimming pool in Water Cube to begin their first-phase 1,500m swimming. Later, they completed 20.08km bicycle riding in Olympic Green and 12km run in Bird’s Nest. After nearly 3-hour games, champions of each group came into being respectively.
Wu Jingmi, person in charge of the competition host, Secretary General of BODA, granted prizes to winners.
This event featured as follows: 1) Adaptation to local conditions, and utilization of local available resources. It firstly integrated the resources of Bird’s Nest, Water Cube and Olympic Green, created such a public fitness brand of “Olympic City Triathlon” in a linkage mode of track & field and swimming venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympics of unique sports-and-tourism-combined characteristics. 2) Orientation to the masses, and funny fitness. The competition was free of charge and open to all beginners so as that ordinary people can experience funny and glamorous sports in the Olympic venues, so Olympic achievements can benefit more ordinary persons. 3) “Carry on Olympic spirit, and make a long-term plan”. As a creative fitness activity for all, the competition firstly combined Olympic venues’ tour with national fitness, and provided a brand-new experience mode of “in-depth tourism” for citizens and travelers; it certainly will provide experience for quarterly/monthly competition creation and urban sports & culture brands establishment.
