CNTV and Xinhuanet - Zhang Gaoli, StandingMember of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier ofthe State Council and head of the Steering Group of the 24th OlympicWinter Games, inspected construction of Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Rail andother Winter Olympics facilities in Beijing on the morning of September 2.Zhang Gaoli visited the Qinglongqiao station of Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-SpeedRail to inspect the platform and waiting room and be briefed about the masterplan of Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Rail and the preservation of environmentand cultural relics and their utilization. He then travelled to theconstruction site at the Badaling Great Wall station of Beijing-ZhangjiakouHigh-Speed Rail to inspect tunneling progress and presided over a seminar thereto be briefed about planning and construction progress of Beijing-ZhangjiakouHigh-Speed Rail and Yanchong Highway.

Zhang Gaoli said that the Party and theState Council place a high level of importance on the preparations for the OlympicWinter Games Beijing 2022. We ought to carefully implement the key instructionsof General Secretary Xi Jinping and treat venue and facility construction asthe utmost priority in all preparation work, follow the master schedule ofpreparations and delegation programs, focus on controlled projects to ensureefficient construction to high quality standards, and to make sure that thefacilities are completed and fully functional before the testing events.

Zhang Gaoli stressed that solid effortsought to be made to ensure proper planning and construction of Beijing-ZhangjiakouHigh-Speed Rail and its Chongli branch, and Yanchong Highway, to establish acomplete transport network and significantly enhance the transport capacity ofthe event area. In the construction process, special attention shall be paid tothe preservation of cultural relics and immovable ones and historic remains areto be bypassed wherever possible. Full consideration is to be given to thedemand of events and production activities for water resources to ensure properconstruction of water conservancy facilities; construction scale is to bedetermined logically to significantly enhance the event area’s capacity forwater resources. The Games-time requirements and post-Games utilisation areboth to be taken account of so that Olympic venues and other related facilitiesare properly built and event service capabilities are significantly enhanced. Stickto synergistic efforts in the prevention and construction in areas includingair, water and sand pollution to significantly enhance environment protectioncapabilities. Significant efforts are to be made to enhance the ability ofsafeguarding construction quality and safety to prevent any potentialaccidents. All territories and government agencies involved are to follow therequirements of “solid efforts on three fronts” to carefully perform theirduties and solidly deliver on the Games infrastructure construction tasks andmake their due contribution to presenting a fantastic, extraordinary andexcellent edition of the Olympic Winter Games.
