The 16th Beijing International Sports Film Week kicked off on August 12, with more than 60 films and TV shows available on major online platforms, covering dozens of sports in Olympic Games such as skating, skiing, football, basketball, gymnastics, athletics and swimming. The films and TV shows of this year were divided in three sections: "Excellent Works at Sports Movies & TV -- Milano International FICTS Fest", "Selected Excellent Productions of Previous Beijing International Sports Film Weeks" and "Outstanding Finalists of the Year".
With regular Covid-19 prevention and control measures, the film week met with its audience through online streaming -- a brand new experiment for the hosts. With the continued theme "Winter Olympic Dream with Sports Emotions", the 16th event centered on, and was supportive of, the preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympics. It included activities such as Beijing's recommendations for the 38th Milano International FICTS Fest, recommendations for the Most Popular Media Film, online streaming of excellent sports films and TV shows, and sharing of sports films and TV shows. It built a top-notch international sports film and television exchange platform to promote the creation and development of sports films and TV shows in China.
During the event, 11 outstanding works were selected for the Milano International FICTS Fest from a total of 159 candidates in China. At the same time, 9 excellent sports films and TV shows were recommended for online streaming of the film week. In the "Most Popular Media Film" section, a media recommendation group consisting of people from mainstream media and online video platforms as well as KOLs selected one production to be the “Most Popular Media Film”.
Launched in 2005, Beijing International Sports Film Week has been promoting the Olympic spirit and enriching the cultural life of people by using sports films. Since 2017, the film week has been jointly sponsored by Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, China Olympic Committee and Beijing Olympic City Development Association, with financial support from Beijing Olympic City Development Foundation and its council members. Pursuing the mission of "Carry on Olympic Spirit, Build A Better City", it has been actively publicizing the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to carry forward Olympic legacy and spread the culture of winter sports. At the same time, it has been striving to build a high-quality international exchange platform of sports film and TV shows, drive the creation and development of sports film and TV shows in China, and spread the winter sports stories of the Chinese people.
