A national freestyle aerial skiing tournament, one of the first test events for the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing, was held at Genting Snow Park, Zhangjiakou, on February 17, 2021.
Genting Snow Park is one of the new venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The event, along with related training activities, was expected to help detect any problems in the venue and rectify them as part of preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In addition to Genting Snow Park, other venues such as the National Sliding Centre and the National Ski Jumping Centre have also opened for athletes’ training.
A total of 20 test events for skiing and sliding of the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were scheduled at six venues in Yanqing District, Beijing and Zhangjiakou, Hebei starting from February 16.
The event was held with appropriate precautions against Covid-19, including limiting people flow. A number of Chinese athletes and technical officials, and overseas experts participated.
The competitions and training activities offered a good opportunity for testing the venues, equipment, facilities, energy sources and traffic, and provided venues for staff to practice skills, improve proficiency and accumulate experience for organizing, managing and serving similar sports events.
Test events for ice sports will reportedly take place in April.
