"Global Solicitation of Olympic Collections" Donation Ceremony was held at Beijing Olympic Tower on June 23 to celebrate the 75th Olympic Day approaches, with donor representatives attending the event.
Fu Xiaohui, Secretary General of Beijing Olympic City Development Association, delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Sun Shangwu, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, donated the official English-language publications of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics and the Beijing 2022Winter Olympics and Paralympics published by China Daily at the event on behalf of the newspaper.
Su Yong, vice chairman of Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation, donated a painting“Sunrise of East, Auspicious Winter Olympics”created by Yao Yizhi, on behalf of the Belgian painter and the Belgian-Chinese Silk Road Chamber of Commerce.
The down training clothes donated by the champion Eileen Gu, which she designed and wore during training, coupled with the competition clothes donated by Su Yiming, another champion of the Games, were also shown in the ceremony.
Cao keying, a student of Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macau University of Science and Technology, made a donation of a self-created poster themed "Together for a shared future", with signatures of 13 champions of the Games on it.
Wang Beixing, sport manager of National Speed Skating Oval and speed skating world sprint champion, donated her World Cup gold medal.
Ji Pengcheng, executive curator of the China MillenniumMonument Art Museum, Zheng Kangchun and Liu Xiaojing, chairman and general manager respectively of the Olympic Engravers' Society (Beijing Hualiu Cultural Development Co., Ltd.), donated exhibit series Imprint Winter Olympics - Exhibition of Public Seal Cutting Works, on behalf of the "Imprint Winter Olympics" Organizing Committee. Sun Hong, a national first-class artist, commissioned the representative Pu Shiqing to donate his self-created Olympic Shengding designed for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Besides, Liu Lihong, a national first-class artist, donated his creation of a complete set of Chinese traditional paper-cut works for mascots and sports icons of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Fu Xiaohui, Secretary General of Beijing Olympic City Development Association, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to on-site leaders, donor representatives, as well as heads at all levels and friends from all walks of life who are concerned about and supportive of Global Solicitation of Olympic Collections. He pointed out that the program is a significant measure to promote the construction of dual-Olympic Museum for the Beijing Municipal Party committee and the Beijing Municipal Government, and a part of the upgrading of the Beijing Olympic Museum, which is of great significance for better inheriting the Beijing dual-Olympic legacy, spreading Olympic culture and its spirit. While widely soliciting Olympic collections, we are planning, designing, transforming and upgrading the hardware facilities of Beijing Olympic Museum, and are working to prepare a new exhibition outline. He believes that under the firm leadership of the Beijing Municipal Party committee, the Beijing Municipal Government and the organizing committee for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and with the strong support of all sectors of society, the Museum will surely show its newer look, more distinctive features and richer connotation.
Fu Xiaohui stressed that after the success of the Beijing Winter Olympics, Beijing has become a dual-Olympic city that made history and boasts incomparable glory. Beijing Olympic City Development Association, a Beijing Olympic legacy institution, will bear in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping's instructions on managing and making good use of the legacy of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and actively plan the post-Winter Olympic articles of the dual-Olympic city. Also, the Center will remain true to its original aspiration and keep its mission firmly in mind to gain new development of the Olympic legacy inheritance. Fu Xiaohui added that he hoped the whole community will, as always, care for and support Beijing Olympic Games promotion, and jointly make new contributions to establishing a model for the utilization of the dual-Olympic city legacy and building a top-class harmonious and livable capital worldwide.
“Global Solicitation of Olympic Collections” is a special solicitation program supported by IOC and Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee. It is co-hosted by Beijing Olympic City Development Association and Beijing Olympic Museum, and is jointly supported by the organizing committee for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, CGTN, Publicity Department of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Publicity and Culture Department of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government, Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Beijing Radio & Television Station, Beijing Olympic Park Management Committee, and National Stadium Co., Ltd.. The program aims to enrich the collection of Beijing Olympic Museum and build a high-level museum with the characteristics of "dual-Olympics". Since its launch on November 28, 2021, it has received positive attention and enthusiastic response from a great many organizations and individuals at home and abroad. Besides, the program has seen more than 1,000 donations (sets) from all walks of life globally, of which the first batch of 527 (sets) has been identified by experts and has been included in Beijing Olympic Museumas the key collection of the solicitation. Additionally, the solicitation office has launched a special solicitation, which is underway currently, for the collections produced by the Beijing Winter Olympics. The solicitation office will also organize a donation ceremony separately according to the solicitation progress. What’s more, the donations this time do not include collections specially collected for the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Other attendees included: Cao Kang, a first-class inspector of the Publicity Department of the General Administration of Sport of China and vice president of the China Association of Sports journalists, Wang Hongwei, deputy director of Publicity and Culture Department of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, Luo Gang, deputy director of the Department of General Administration of Beijing 2022, Shi Fenghua, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Dong Jian, director of the Management Committee of Beijing Olympic Central Area, along with Qi Baoliang, chairman of Beijing Shiao Forest Park Development and Management Co., Ltd..
