February 1, 2023 - Ahead of the first anniversary of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, the Beijing Olympic City Association (BODA), the legacy entity of both summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games, - entrusted by the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee, released the Legacy Report of Beijing 2022 (post-Games).

One year ago, the great success of Beijing 2022 Games created  wide-ranging sustainable legacies and long-lasting benefits for the host city and its people.

Beijing 2022 engaged over 300 million people in winter sports even before the Game, opened a new era for winter sports globally. Nearly 2,000 indoor and outdoor ice rinks and ski venues had been built for public.

This is helping millions across the country stay fit, and promoting healthy and active lifestyles while accelerating the growth of China’s winter sports industry.

Beijing became the first city ever in the world to host both summer and winter Olympic Games. As a symbol of sustainable urban regeneration, Shougang - the Beijing 2022 big air venue which had been converted from a former steel mill - is now used as both a sports facility and a vibrant culture hub. It is an example of how with creativity, drive and innovation, city landscapes can be transformed into more liveable, citizen-friendly and greener spaces.

Beijing 2022 also accelerated the development of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou highspeed railway. As a result, travel between Beijing and Zhangjiakou has been cut from three hours to 47 minutes.

One year after, the legacy of Games is already tangible, with all Olympic competition venues opened to the public.

More than 200 thousand tourists visited the Shougang Park during this snow season, mainly attracted by the public Snow Fun Park at BigAir Shougang, the light show, and other industrial tourist attractions.  

Yanqing will further promote the winter sports industry, developing tourism by leveraging Yanqing Olympic zone and tourist attractions, in order to become a unique tourist hub.

Zhangjiakou will facilitate the creation of Jing-Zhang sports, cultural and tourism belt, develop its renewable energy industry, with the aim of becoming an international winter tourism destination.

All Games technology innovations and new standards, such as the neutral carbon dioxide cooling technology, renewable energy, new sustainable building standard for snow venues, will continue to serve the ever-expanding winter sports industry across the country.

The post-Games Legacy Report launched today, which includes seven chapters, illustrates the post-Games legacy strategy and measures to promote sports for all, as well as economic and social development.

BODA, as a legacy entity of both Beijing 2008 and Beijing 2022 Games, will carry on its role to further develop Olympic legacy, promote sports for all, and lay the foundation for Olympic legacy studies and research. In order to assess the long-term Games impact of the Beijing 2022, BODA will continue to develop and publish the new editions of the legacy reports of Beijing 2022 for the years to come.
