Established in February 2023, the Zhangjiakou Olympic City Development Centre is committed to promoting the sustainable development of the Olympic cause in Zhangjiakou City, disseminating the Olympic culture and carrying forward the Winter Olympic spirit. Thanks to its active efforts over the past year, the work of Olympic city development is gaining steam in Zhangjiakou.

On 4 February 2023, the Zhangjiakou Municipal Investment Promotion Bureau, the Zhangjiakou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism and Zhangjiakou Disabled Persons’ Federation, along with relevant departments of Beijing, jointly launched the first anniversary celebrations of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. They also held a ceremony marking the inauguration of the Zhangjiakou Olympic City Development Centre and its membership of the World Union of Olympic Cities.

From 4 to 5 March 2023, the Zhangjiakou Olympic City Development Centre co-organised the finals of the “Snow China” Alpine Skiing Points Race in Genting Snow Park in Chongli District, together with the Zhangjiakou Winter Sports Management Centre and Major Event Management Centre. It carried out an extensive and multifaceted promotional effort for the event through various channels.

A conference on the post-Games economic development of Zhangjiakou was held from 22 to 25 June 2023, welcoming participation of more than 200 people who were involved in the preparations for and staging of the Beijing 2022 Games. Various activities were also carried out during the period, including the launch ceremony, screening of the film Beijing 2022, exchanges on new technology, new industries, new business forms and new models, as well as the Olympic Day 24-Hour Run. The goal was to make full use of the Winter Olympic legacy, present Zhangjiakou’s economic development achievements after the Games and provide ideas and suggestions for the city’s post-Games economic development.

On 15 August 2023, the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre, together with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports and the Zhangjiakou Municipal People’s Government, released the Annual Plan for Advancing the Development of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Sports, Culture and Tourism Belt. The Plan calls for joint efforts in six areas, including establishing the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Olympic legacy coordination and support mechanism, strengthening international exchanges and cooperation, collaborating on Olympic museums and promoting public fitness activities, in a bid to facilitate post-Games utilisation of Olympic venues and support regional development.

From 12 to 13 September 2023, the Beijing Olympic City Development Centre and the Zhangjiakou Olympic City Development Centre jointly held the “dual Olympic cultural promotion” campaign at the National Ski Jumping Centre, featuring the themed exhibition on the Beijing 2022 spirit (Zhangjiakou) and the Beijing-Zhangjiakou cultural and tourist resources survey trip. These activities aimed to disseminate the Olympic culture in Beijing and Zhangjiakou and promote the integrated development of the sports, cultural and tourism industries in the two cities.

From 18 to 19 November 2023, the Olympic culture study tours themed “New Era, New Trends, New Youth” were held in the National Biathlon Centre and the National Ski Jumping Centre, with the support of the Organisation Department of the CPC Zhangjiakou Municipal Committee and the Zhangjiakou Care for the Next Generation Working Committee. More than 160 primary and secondary school students listened to stories about the Winter Olympics, tried cross-country skiing and felt the charm of champions, enabling them to resonate with the Olympic spirit and feel the charm of sports.

Since 2023, the Zhangjiakou Olympic City Development Centre, as the co-organiser, has provided strong support for the staging of various city leagues such as the football league, basketball league, volleyball league, skating (roller skating) league, badminton league and orienteering league.

To celebrate the second anniversary of the Beijing 2022 Games on 4 February 2024, the Zhangjiakou Olympic City Development Centre helped organise study tours in the National Biathlon Centre. With the aim of promoting the Olympic spirit, young people from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region and volunteers of the Beijing 2022 Games were organised to visit Olympic exhibitions, experience ice and snow sports and watch traditional Shehuo performances. They also took trips to Olympic venues and participated in other activities designed to spread the Olympic spirit.
